Lester Pearson had the opportunity to meet General Douglas MacArthur in February 1950, just before the general was recalled from Japan. The meeting gave Pearson insight into MacArthur’s thinking about how Japan had been reshaped since the end of the Second World War and how the United States envisioned it fitting into the Cold War conflict in Asia, a conflict that was about to become much more heated, particularly in Korea.
